Fifi System Marine External Fire Water Pump Booster Pump
Diesel Engine Drive
Product Description
The main fire pumps installed on ships are located inside the ship's engine room, usually at the bottom platform. They are electrically driven from the main supply of the ship. It is very common to find them installed near general service pump and ballast pumps. The general service pump lines are interconnected with the fire main and at times are used to provide water to the fire system
Fire Pump: A Reliable Guardian Against Fires
Key Functions
- Rapid Response: In the event of a fire, fire pumps swiftly generate the required water pressure and flow rate, enabling effective fire suppression.
- Continuous Water Supply: These pumps ensure an uninterrupted water supply throughout the firefighting process, which is crucial for successfully extinguishing fires.
- Versatile Application: Fire pumps are designed to operate in diverse environments, including ships and offshore platforms, catering to the fire safety needs of various scenarios.
Capacity and Requirements for Main Fire Pumps
The specifications for fire pumps, including their quantity and capacity, vary according to the ship type and gross tonnage (GT).
Passenger Ships
- Under 4,000 GT: At least two independent fire pumps are required to ensure sufficient firefighting capacity.
- 4,000 GT and Above: A minimum of three independent fire pumps must be installed to meet the higher safety standards of larger vessels.
- Performance Requirement: Each fire pump must be able to deliver a water volume not less than two - thirds of the capacity of the bilge pump (RD), guaranteeing effective firefighting performance.
Cargo Ships
- Over 1,000 GT: Cargo ships of this size must be equipped with at least two fire pumps, each with an independent drive unit, ensuring reliable operation during emergencies.
- Under 1,000 GT: The number of fire pumps to be installed is determined by the relevant management department, taking into account the specific safety requirements of the vessel.
