Marine Emergency Throw- Overboard Inflatable Life Raft
KHA-type throw-over board inflatable life rafts are in accordance with the 1996 Amendment to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974, MSC.81 (70), MSC.218(82), MSC.226(82) and ISO 15738-2002. This product has been approved by CCS, ZY, EC (GL), ABS, LR, and KR. It can be used in ships engaged in international voyages.

Inflation Method
After throw over from ship, the liferaft can be inflated and opened automatically, if the ship sinks very fast and the life raft cannot be thrown over, the raft still can float up from the water under the action of Hydrostatic Release Unit which can be inflated and opened automatically

The installation height is 18m-25m from the water surface

Life Raft launching procedure has 3 different methods, Today we are going to learn the first type.
>> Auto release with Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU).
>> Manually launching.
>> Launching by Davits.
Auto release with Hydrostatic Release Unit
- HRU acts as a connecting media between life raft container and ship deck, where it is stored.
- The HRU comes into action under the pressure of water exerted on the HRU when the ship sinks below 4m of water level.
- The HRU consists of a sharp knife or chisel which is used to cut the strap lashed over the container carrying life raft, but it still holds the painter at the weak link.
- The HRU is connected to the container through a lashing arrangement which can be disengaged quickly by means of a slip hook when launching the raft manually.
- The HRU is connected to a strong point on the deck through a weak link.
- When the vessel sinks, the HRU cuts the rope and the container floats to the surface of water.
- As vessel sinks further, the tension in the painter causes the life raft to inflate out of the container.
- The tension acting on the weak link will cause it to break making the life raft free from the ship.

- Classified by release method
According to the release form, life rafts can be divided into two types: throwing life rafts and hanging life rafts.
Among them, the throwing liferaft can be thrown into the sea by manpower or by its own gravity, and passengers can use boarding facilities to board or jump directly into the water to board; In the sea, passengers can enter the hoisted life raft from the boarding deck and then descend to the sea surface.
