The Rudder and Propeller Propulsion and Control System of a Ship Main Components
Power Transmission
• Rudder Propeller: As the core component, it converts power into thrust, propelling the ship forward or backward, and also enables steering functions.
• Pneumatic Clutch: It can engage or disengage power transmission as needed. This facilitates cutting off or connecting power during operations such as starting, shifting gears, and stopping, protecting the equipment.
• Cardan Shaft, Intermediate Shaft, Short Shaft: These form the transmission chain, transferring power from power sources like the engine to the rudder propeller. The cardan shaft can flexibly transmit power at different angles; the intermediate shaft is used for power transmission over long distances or between different positions; the short shaft enables short - distance power connection.
• High - elasticity Coupling: It cushions shocks and vibrations during power transmission, compensates for relative displacements between two shafts, and ensures smooth power transmission.
• Hydraulic Motor: It converts hydraulic energy into mechanical energy, providing power for actions such as the steering and pitch adjustment of the rudder propeller.
• Engine - driven Oil Pump: It supplies pressurized oil to the hydraulic system, ensuring the normal operation of hydraulic components such as the hydraulic motor.  
Control and Monitoring
• Steering Handle: It is the operating component for the crew to control the ship's steering, through which steering commands are issued.
• Rudder Angle Indicator: It displays the deflection angle of the rudder propeller in real - time, allowing the crew to intuitively understand the ship's steering status.
• Emergency Steering Control Switch, Emergency Speed Control Switch: In case of emergencies such as failures of the normal control system, they are used to control the steering and speed of the rudder propeller, ensuring the basic maneuvering of the ship.  
System Assurance
• Well Box: It provides installation space and protection for components such as the rudder propeller. Some well boxes can also assist with operations like the lifting and maintenance of the rudder propeller.
• Bulkhead Sealing: It prevents the leakage of media such as water and oil, ensuring the independence of compartments and the safety of the ship.
• Lubricating Oil Pump: It lubricates transmission components, reducing friction and wear, and extending the service life of the equipment.
• Electrical Control Box: It controls and protects the electrical equipment of the entire rudder and propeller system, such as the starting, stopping, and speed regulation of motors.
• Feedback Mechanism: It feeds back the actual status of the rudder propeller (such as rudder angle, rotational speed, etc.) to the control system, enabling the control system to adjust control commands according to the actual situation and ensuring the stable operation of the system.
