The inflatable life raft is an innovative emergency life-saving equipment that appeared in the 1960s and is mainly made of rubber. Typically, it is compactly folded inside a fiberglass-reinforced plastic container, which usually takes a cylindrical shape with hemispherical ends.
 

In times of crisis, the life raft is thrown into the water and automatically inflates into shape. This inflation is initiated by pulling the valve of a separate gas cylinder. The inflation gas consists mainly of carbon dioxide and a small amount of nitrogen, the CO2 is expanded using a small amount of N2, which acts as an anti-freeze element.

After inflating, the life raft has a three-dimensional structure with super buoyancy and ample space. This design enables safe rescue and resettlement of people in distress or at risk of drowning.
 

If the ship sinks very quickly and the life raft cannot be thrown out of the board, the life raft can still float from the water under the action of the HRU, which can automatically inflate and open.

Throw into the water
When the ship is in distress and personnel need to evacuate, the life raft can be thrown into the water manually. Specific steps are as follows:
1. Pull out the latch: First, you need to pull out the latch on the manual release hook connected to the storage tube lashing.
2. Push out the slip ring: Then, push the slip ring upward to loosen the manual unhook and the lashing.
3. The life raft slips: After the lashing is loosened, the life raft automatically slides into the water under its own gravity because the raft frame is tilted.
